Global Impact works on charitable ventures to inspire greater giving, including campaign design and software solutions for fundraising campaigns.
Step 1: Empathize. What is the problem?
When I joined Global Impact in 2014, our team realized that a product that allowed our clients to create custom fundraising solutions on the fly was lacking in the marketplace.
Over the course of 7 years, I led our software team in the creation of over 200 customized international giving campaigns, working with clients like Avery Dennison, Boeing, Hilton, GoPro, Rubbermaid, Pepsi, and General Electric.
I let the design of the product from end-to-end, leading the design thinking of product features, user journeys, and campaign templating.
Step 2: Define. Deeply understanding the problem + Step 3: Ideate. How can we solve the problem?
To better understand what our customer base needed, I met with clients over the course of our design process to discover what their needs were and how we could meet those needs in a SaaS solution.
I also met with marketing, development, stakeholders, and customer service to ensure we were all aligned on our product roadmap.
The fundraising app we created to launch these campaigns is called Giving Accelerator™. Building custom apps does require an investment of time and resources, but the level of customization and scalability you get back is highly valuable. We had to decide how to edit campaigns on the fly, how to change out branding variables per campaign, and keep the servers humming and the asset delivery happy for the end user.
Step 4: Prototype. Show an MVP than can solve the problem.
I was responsible for the design and documentation as well as creating mockups of the application. Based on our research findings and conversations with donors and stakeholders, we came up with a single-page app solution that we vetted with users before we began development.
Step 5: Test. Do real users feel like this would solve the problem?
In addition to connecting to multiple powerful payment gateways in the USA and the UK, we added app features quarterly to the product and created a mobile-friendly experience for informed users to give quickly.
We raised over $15 million in donations for notable charities at work around the world through our app.
